Description
Stoke Pottery Saggar Seat with natural oak wax treatment. The product includes a groove around the top section. Shell cup handles are screwed to the sides to help in moving the seat to different locations around the home or garden.
A portable product for visitors to use when you need an additional seat in the home. We have based this design on a ‘sagger’ which is a protective ceramic container, traditionally used in pottery firing. It encloses and shields ceramic pieces from direct flame, ash, and other kiln byproducts. The word ‘saggar’ may come from the word ‘safeguard’.
Saggars played an important role in the coal fired bottle oven. On a large potbank they were made by a team of men: one or two saggar makers, a frame filler, and a saggar-makers bottom-knocker…
