Before the new season had even started, Port Vale were named Community Club of the Year at the EFL Awards broadcast live on Sky Sports for their work helping the local area during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A victory in March against Sutton United meant the Valiants were and are still the only club out of all 92 other teams in the top tiers to have recorded league wins over all the other 91 teams.

Vale finished the season in 5th place and in the play-offs. They defeated Swindon Town in the semi-final 2nd leg in a late evening penalty shoot-out in dramatic circumstances. Promotion as the League 2 Play-off Final Winners was secured at Wembley Stadium with a memorable 3-0 victory over Mansfield Town.

George Albert Wade was born in 1891 in Burslem. His father produced ceramics for the textile and wool spinning industries that can be traced back to 1810 at Manchester Pottery in Greenhead Street in the mother town.

Wade Potteries became a household name in the UK and America shortly after 1953 when Sir George Wade developed Whimsies, a small solid ceramic collectable animal series. These included a leaping fawn, a horse, a spaniel with a ball, a poodle and a squirrel.

In 2010 Wade Ceramics Ltd moved from the historic Hill Works in Burslem to a purpose-built factory in nearby Etruria…Just weeks before Christmas, Wades fell into administration in December 2022 with the loss of 130 jobs. The withdrawal of a major customer and rising costs, especially energy, had contributed to the closure.
